The Major Races of Heva

Introduction

This page contains information about both the mechanical modifications to the major races and basic information about how each race fits into the setting.

With the inclusion of three formerly evil races from the Monster Manual, I think it's important that I reiterate that in Heva, no creature bound by Natural Imperative (ie, lives, mates and dies) has an inherent alignment.

Both the mechanics and descriptions of the races below are specifically for inhabitants of Heva. The same races from other parts of the world (far and distant Mu, for example) would be exactly the same in all ways but language availability, some racial abilities and in rare cases favored class.

Bugbears

Bugbears possess the following racial traits:

  • +4 Strength, +2 Constitution
  • Medium size.
  • A bugbear's base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Racial Hit Dice: A bugbear begins with three levels of humanoid, which provide 3d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +2, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +1, Ref +3, and Will +1.
  • Racial Skills: A bugbear's humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 6 X (2 + Int modifer). It's class skills are Climb, Diplomacy, Hide, Intimidate, Listen, Move Silently, Ride, Search and Spot.
  • Racial Feats: A bugbear's humanoid levels give it two feats.
  • +3 natural armor bonus.
  • +4 racial bonus on Spot and Listen checks. +4 racial bonus on Intimidate and Diplomacy when dealing with other Greenblood Kin.
  • Automatic Languages: Hevan, Greenblood. Bonus Languages: Beast, Dwarven, Gnomish, Orc.
  • Favored Class: Ranger
  • Level adjustment +1
  • Racial Abilities: Scent, spirit familiar.

Dwarves

Dwarves possess the following racial traits:

  • +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma
  • Medium size.
  • Dwarf base land speed is 20 feet. However, dwarves can move at this speed even when wearing medium or heavy armor or when carrying a medium or heavy load (unlike other creatures, whose speed is reduced in such situations).
  • Stability: Dwarves are exceptionally stable on their feet. A dwarf has a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not standing firmly on the ground).
  • +2 racial bonus to saving throws against poison.
  • +4 racial bonus on all Craft checks. +4 racial bonus on Appraise checks for items fashioned from metal, stone or gems. -4 racial penalty when making Diplomacy checks against Elves.
  • Automatic Languages: Hevan, Dwarven. Bonus Languages: Astral, Greenblood, Gnomish, Muush.
  • Favored Class: Artificer
  • Racial Abilities: Curse resistant, crystalskin, direction sense, low-light vision, stonesickness

Elves

Elves possess the following racial traits:

  • +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution
  • Medium size.
  • An elf's base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Immunity to sleep spells and effects, a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment effects and a -2 racial saving throw penalty against spells with the shadow descriptor.
  • +4 racial bonus on Concentration checks. -4 racial penalty when making Diplomacy checks against Dwarves.
  • Elves do not need to sleep. Instead, they must spend a minimum of four hours each day in contemplative meditation or suffer the same penalties other races would incur for not sleeping.
  • Automatic Languages: Hevan, Elven. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Gnomish, Orc.
  • Favored Class: Psion
  • Racial Abilities: Low-light vision, node sense, node tap

Gnomes

Gnomes possess the following racial traits:

  • +2 Constitution, -2 Strength
  • Small size.
  • A gnome's base land speed is 20 feet.
  • -2 racial penalty on saving throws againt illusions, enchantments and spells and effects with the fear descriptor.
  • +4 racial bonus on all perform and and Craft checks related to producing works of art.
  • All gnomes treat Speak Language as a class skill.
  • +1 racial bonus to all Knowledge and Bardic Knowledge checks.
  • All gnomes have keen memories when it comes to the spoken word and can perfectly recall any conversation, song, speech, lecture or story they have ever heard..
  • Gnomes are immune to spells with the pain descriptor and all effects related to pain. They are still aware of any conditions that would cause other Kin to feel pain.
  • Automatic Languages: Hevan, Gnomish. Bonus Languages: Beast, Astral, Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Greenblood, Muush, Orc.
  • Favored Class: Bard
  • Racial Abilities: Blood oath, low-light vision, scent.

Goblins

Goblins possess the following racial traits:

  • -2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, -2 Charisma
  • Small size: +1 bonus to Armor Class, +1 bonus on attack rolls, +4 bonus on hide checks, -4 penalty on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits 3/4 those of Medium characters.
  • A goblin's base land speed is 30 feet.
  • +4 racial bonus on Listen and Spot checks. +4 racial bonus on Survival checks when tracking.
  • Automatic Languages: Hevan, Greenblood. Bonus Languages: Beast, Dwarven, Gnomish, Orc.
  • Favored Class: Scout
  • Racial Ability: Land sense, scent.

Haflings

Haflings possess the following racial traits:

  • +2 Dexterity, -2 Strength
  • Small size: +1 bonus to Armor Class, +1 bonus on attack rolls, +4 bonus on hide checks, -4 penalty on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits 3/4 those of Medium characters.
  • A haflings's base land speed is 20 feet.
  • +2 racial bonus on Climb, Jump, Listen, and Move Silently checks.
  • Automatic Languages: Hevan. Bonus Languages: Dwarven, Gnomish, Muush.
  • +2 racial bonus on all saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities.
  • Favored Class: Rogue
  • Racial Ability: Bestow fate, errand boy of the fates, fortunate soul, lucky aura, spell immunity

Half-Elf (Dunimas)

Half-Elf's possess the following racial traits:

  • Medium size.
  • A Half-Elf's base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Immunity to sleep spells and effects, a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment effects and a -2 racial saving throw penalty against spells with the shadow descriptor.
  • +2 racial bonus on Concentration checks. -2 racial penalty when making Diplomacy checks against Dwarves.

Hobgoblins

Hobgoblins possess the following racial traits:

  • +2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution
  • Medium size.
  • A hobgoblin's base land speed is 30 feet.
  • +4 racial bonus on Spot and Listen checks. +4 racial bonus on handle animal checks with animals of the same type as the Hobgoblin's guide.
  • Automatic Languages: Hevan, Greenblood. Bonus Languages: Beast, Dwarven, Gnomish, Orc.
  • Favored Class: Fighter
  • Level adjustment +1
  • Racial Abilities: Animal guardian, scent.

Humans

Humans possess the following racial traits:

  • Medium size.
  • A human's base land speed is 30 feet.
  • 1 extra feat at 1st level.
  • 4 extra skill points at 1st level and 1 extra skill point at each additional level.
  • Automatic Languages: Hevan. Bonus Languages: Dwarven, Gnomish, Greenblood, Muush.
  • Favored Class: Any
  • Racial Abilities: Magic affinity.
